This blog is about the continuing adventure of the New World as it sheds the ancient and calcified beliefs and practices of the “Old World.” This process is beautifully summarized in our Declaration of Independence:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
From that basis “We, the People,” created a form of self-government in a pact by which certain personal and state freedom (a.k.a. property) were surrendered to a national government. The role of the national government was clearly enumerated in the Constitution. It’s a system that has worked extremely well for over two centuries. But why? How?
The importance of the individual and the recognition that Life, Liberty, and pursuit of Happiness are inherent in every human Being, is the radical notion that unleashed unprecedented creativity and initiative and produced the wildly successful United States of America. Where such freedom is present, a society flourishes. Where such freedom is absent, the society decays. It’s not rocket science, as was once said.
A ruling class must have a peasantry to lord over. This old world perspective is still lingering. America is based on the fundamental classless society. A work-in-progress to be sure, but where else is found “rags to riches” realities not requiring brutal thuggery? This need for a peasantry (a.k.a. dependent class) is the crux of the political and social manipulations to diminish the so-called middle class.
This blog will look at the good ideas that are working for most people. By emphasizing thinking and decisions that sustain individual freedom the closer such thoughts are brought to reality. In effect, it is a clash of ideas - some very old, some quite new. We are referred to as the new world...
